This past Saturday we wrapped up building on The House That Ching Built, an initiative from Houston Dynamo‘s own Brian Ching – soccer star and philanthropist!
Brian has spent the past year talking to sponsors and hosting benefit events to raise the $75,000 necessary to sponsor a Houston Habitat for Humanity green home. This house was a joint effort by several companies and organizations, and we were thrilled to have all of the following groups involved: BMC Software, Major League Soccer, Turner Construction, Dynamo Charities, Home Depot, HP /Computex and KHOU – TV.

Brian was on site almost every day of the build, and several teammates stopped by as well. They all got a chance to spend time with the family partner who will be purchasing the home once it’s completed – Theresa Urbano and her two young children, who couldn’t be more excited and eager to help the build.
This house will be one of Houston Habitat’s first green homes – an upgrade that includes solar-panel-generated electric and solar-powered hot water heater, as well as interior healthy living options such as non-toxic paint, sealant and insulation, and recycled cabinetry.
